Autumnal afternoon tea event – Sat 8 Nov

As a special request I’ve organised an autumnal themed afternoon event on Saturday 8 November. With mulled apple juice, hearty sandwiches, savoury tarts and cakes full of spice, it should be an afternoon tea to banish those autumn blues.

The price per person is £15 per person. Visit the events page to book. Hopefully I’ll see you soon!

May’s afternoon tea – one place remaining

Due to a last minute cancellation I now have one place available for Sunday’s afternoon tea event. So if you’re by yourself and you fancy treating yourself to afternoon tea and meeting some new people who love food, why not give it a go. You’ll be sharing a table with the other lovely guests so you’ll feel like you are with friends. The price is £14. Drop me an email at if you’d like to come along.

Soft Fruit Sunday

I am a huge fruit fan – I eat at least 3-5 pieces of fruit a day and when the peaches, apricots, strawberries and raspberries are in season I am in heaven. So the next afternoon tea at Cafe Nouveau is celebrating the start of the soft fruit season.

If you’re a fruit fan and also love your sweets and savouries then May’s afternoon tea on Sunday 18 May is a perfect treat, and there are still one place available. So to whet the appetite here’s what’s on the menu:

Homemade raspberry cordial

A selection of sandwiches including mature cheddar cheese with peach and chilli chutney; smoked salmon and cream cheese; and roast beef with watercress and horseradish

Chicken, tomato and basil puff rolls

A selection of cakes including peach and blueberry mini cakes; strawberry tarts; and raspberry, white chocolate and pistachio profiteroles.

Fruit scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream

Selection of Teapigs teas and Grumpy Mule and Bean Brothers coffee

If you’d like to book a place at May’s afternoon tea event or any of the others events please visit the events page.

Discover Huddersfield Cake Competition

Image Image

This Sunday cake bakers have a new opportunity to get involved with the Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival, with a Discover Huddersfield themed baking competition. The objective is to create a cake which represents your Huddersfield – perhaps taking inspiration from some of the great local produce or a favourite place.

The competition is open to anyone with an interest in baking and there are two categories: 12 years old and under, and over 12s. Bring your cake along to Festival between 9 and 11am and you could win some fantastic prizes including:

We’ll be announcing the winners at 1pm tomorrow and we’re really pleased to have Susan from Gourmet Kitchenware (aka @gourmetmummy) as one of the judges.

Visit the Food and Drink website for the full entry conditions and to download a copy of the entry form.

P.S. We’re happy to take entries on the day so don’t worry if you not confirmed that you’re entering.

Independents Day – Huddersfield

It’s the 4th July and a day that has been declared Independents’ Day – a national campaign to celebrate independent retailers.

Huddersfield has some great independents and my favourites foodie ones are Hoults Wine and H Mitchell butchers. However, today I want to share my favourite street that has four great independents on it (and non of them food related!)

The street is Market Walk and it connects Market Place and King Street.

Market Walk

It’s a little back street that can be easily missed but it’s home to a jewellers, a florist, a shoe shop and clothes shop. On that one little street you can get a complete outfit for a special night out. I always receive compliments on the things that I have bought from these shops. They are great places to find  something unique.

So these are my recommendations for Huddersfield. Which independents’ do you recommend?
